Gee Design started in 2023 with a focus on creating lasting and valued pieces. Blending artisan techniques with a contemporary vision. Our goal is to make unique, high-quality designs that combine art and function. Gee Design is a member of Suomalaisen Työn Liito (Association For Finnish Work). We are proud that our furniture has been awarded the Design from Finland brand, which speaks about professional, responsible and user-oriented design. In addition, our furniture has been awarded the Avainlippu (Key Flag Symbol) which It demonstrates that the product has been manufactured or the service has been produced in Finland, creating Finnish jobs.
Why do you use Danish cord?
Danish cord has become an important part of my recent pieces and I continue to explore ways to innovate and incorporate a material that has long roots in traditional furniture making. It’s the juxtaposition of modern design and a very natural, “old school” material that interests and challenges me. The fact that it is sustainable and FSC certified is very important and aligns with my company’s quality and sustainability goals.
How do you use Danish Cord?
One example is the Boomerang Lunger + Ottoman, which is simultaneously classic and modern. The hand-woven Danish paper cord artfully brings warmth and texture to any room, while the gently curved back and seat ensure an ideal recline that promotes unparalleled comfort and support. It takes 9 hours and approximately 400 meters of paper cord to weave one lounger. The traditional weaving on the front of the back rest and seat are contrasted with the linear clean texture on the back. This thoughtfully designed piece seamlessly integrates function and style, sitting higher than similar chairs, it allows one to more easily rise out of the seat
