I am a designer based in Oslo, working with furniture, products and interiors. I am interested in how different materials think and behave, and how design and craft can bring out their inherent qualities. In my designs I search for lightweight, holistic forms that embody the logic of their materials.
Why do you use Danish cord?
I have been working with paper cord for several projects over the years, and I have come to appreciate its wide-ranging possibilities. Paper cord is in itself a humble material, but through the process of weaving it can create beautiful textures and very comfortable seating surfaces. Paper cord is inviting to the touch, it complements wood very well, and it ages beautifully.
How do you use Danish Cord?
One example is the Tangent chair. It is a lightweight lounge chair, in laminated birch wood and woven paper cord. The design is characterized by a low and laid back seating position, and an open, minimalistic construction. The armrests are thin laminated profiles, but because of their ergonomic position and rounded geometry which, together with the Danish cord seat, they provide comfortable contact surfaces.
